San Diego County Credit Union Leads Healthy Food Drive Mother Hubbard's Cupboard was established three years ago by the San Diego Women's Foundation to benefit the client families of Vista Hill's ParentCare Family Recovery Center. Thanks to the La Jolla Colony/UC Branch of SDCCU (San Diego County Credit Union), the Cupboard is going to be filled again this year. Click here for Flyer One of 27 offices in three counties (Riverside, Orange, and San Diego), this branch is sponsoring their second food drive for women and their families who struggle with critical issues and often need emergency food and supplies. The women attend ParentCare for substance abuse recovery, mental illness treatment, parenting skills and more. Causes which are close to members' hearts are often part of SDCCU's philanthropic outreach. Special thanks from all of us at Vista Hill for this magnificent support. sandiegocountycreditunion.com National Drug Control Policy Director Visits ParentCare President Obama's newly appointed Director for the White House National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske met and toured the Don Allen ParentCare Family Recovery Center in La Mesa on May 17th. Our special guest and his department assistants interacted with a panel of six recovery program graduates to hear what matters most to women undergoing addiction treatment. Each alumna openly described their own unique path into alcohol and drug addiction. They were determined to share more than their pain and shame. Panelists emphasized the growth and strength they now have in being clean, sober, and productive women. As the national Drug Czar, Director Kerlikowske is conducting planned visits at various public sector drug treatment sites around the country, looking at examples of best practices for recovery. ParentCare was selected by his White House team because of the exceptional treatment and case management services, including co-occurring disorders, for parenting women seeking recovery from alcohol and drugs. Great Cell Phone Drive Helps Special Care Services Your old cell phones can help raise funds for Stein Education Center 's Special Care Services (formerly the Recreation Program). We have started a cell phone collection drive that will raise money for program field trips and supplies. State funding reductions have made it more important than ever to find sources of program support. There are drop-off collection boxes at the Stein Education Center main campus (6145 Decena Drive) and Vista Hill main office (8910 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.). Phones need not be in working order and will be re-purposed for charitable use or properly recycled if unusable. For information on the drive or day care services for school age developmentally disabled children, please call Director Chayo Chavez at 619.281.5511 ext. 221.
